interviewed there. Residents seemed happy. They operate fairly often and early. 2 categoricals, program is young and has only been around for like 6-7 years. Since there are only 2 categoricals, they're pretty tight and personal with the attendings. The stand out service is probably colorectal.

tripod,

thanks for the info, i really appreciate it!

bump.

What's the word on Lahey nowadays?? Seems that they have a good rep as far as their fellowships (esp. colorectal) go, but how about their GS residency now?? Has it progressed since 2002, when this thread was last active??

Hi there,
Lahey Clinic is just about the best place to do colo-rectal fellowship in the country. As for general surgery residency, I have heard nothing bad about it. The problem with going to a place that has loads of fellows is that one can get less than a great experience in residency because the more complicated cases will go to the fellows or the "bread and butter" general surgery cases are less well represented. This may or may not be the case at Lahey Clinic.

Again, I have head nothing negative about the Lahey Clinic residency program and nothing but praise about their colorectal fellowship. If interviewing there, I would ask plenty of questions of the residents in terms of case experience. My bet is that is it OK.

njbmd 🙂

thanks for the info njbmd

I also thought it was interesting to see them rotate at Boston children's for Pediatric and Baltimore Shock Trauma, (pretty far from Boston) for their Trauma/SCC stuff. Haven't really seen any other program do anything as "extreme" in terms of commuting 🙂
