I just bought a new laptop and am trying to decide whether I should go w/ the traditional laptop case (over the shoulder) or get one of those new laptop backpacks. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences that might help me out?

Thanks!

check out EMS, they have some pretty nice laptop backpacks, not too expensive either.

I bought a really nice north face backpack from EMS to carry books in and have a shoulder bag for my laptop, nice because if I want to I can carry only my laptop and leave my backpack in my locker... just what I do

I really like my laptop backpack. It is a Samsonite Rafter and it can carry about three to four books (depending on size) and has ample padding for my laptop. Plus it has really nice shoulder straps. I used to have the more traditional messenger type laptop case, but found it difficult to carry around my bookbag as well as the laptop. Now I can carry around both or just one or the other with a single bag. I highly recommend them. Checkout www.ebags.com. They have a wide selection of different laptop backpacks with reviews. Oh, and one more thing, they have a really nice feature that allows you to browse to see if your laptop will fit in the compartment.

While we are on the subject of backapcks, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a BIG overthe sholder, one strap bag for my son for school He is a senior this year and wants a one strap bag but all the ones I have seen are way too small.

I have a samsonite laptop backpack too. I like it a lot. Lots of padding and room for books. One tip though... don't lay it flat if you shove a lot of heavy books in it... i had to make a minor repair to my screen due to my carelessness. +pissed+

hey amy check this out. There are a few here that seem pretty big, but then of course I don't know how big you are looking for.

i like my backpack laptop case, its stylish and practical---by Calvin Klienn

take a look at the kelty megabye, its nice if you have a medium/ small size laptop and despite its small looks it holds a buttload.

Got mine at Target, by Jansport. $35, and a pocket/clip/secret compartment for everything.

I had a shoulder bag last year and while my OMT partners loved being able to fix all my somatic dysfunctions, I had a few painful weeks there. It's best to distribute that weight evenly, so at least you are equally dysfunctional!

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I was looking at either a Samsonite or a Targus since those seemed to be the best for my 15.4" screan. However, it is hard to tell how much room the backpacks have for books simply by looking at the little pics online. Does anyone else have a wide screan laptop w/ a preference in bacpack model?

on ebags.com, http://www.ebags.com/business_cases/department/index.cfm?sub_site_id=25

you can enter your specific laptop model, and it will tell you which cases & backpacks fit

they also have the most reasonable prices
