If your school doesn't stress what kind of computer to get, do you think it makes sense to save money and get a desktop? Just wondering if I'll really need to have a computer available to me outside of my home.

i think a laptop would be a better option. you can find fairly affordable laptops these days.

laptop. Hands down. portable and you can get an external drive if you need more space.

laptops are much more convenient, and you can bring them to class to take notes (or play games and go on AIM when you're bored). I used a desktop in undergrad, and it's just unbelievably annoying when you have to move all your stuff. Also, laptops take less space, and you can just put them aside when you need some desk space.

come on, dude. desktop. where would you play world of warcraft?

Yeah, if you are a dental student, you will probably need a computer outside of your home, like most people these days. How else would you entertain yourself or read SDN at 3 in the morning? Go laptop.

I don't play it, but my widescreen toshiba laptop can run WoW on max settings no prob. There are good ones out there.
