I went from a top-of-the line fiberoptic system in residency where I got to watch the laryngoscopy in full-color on a monitor to now using the self-contained unit with no capability of recording pics, etc. Is there a go between, that would both allow me to get pics and not squint through and eye-piece? What are others doing? These things are expensive regardless of which you use.

AmbuScope: disposable/recyclable scope with video and still image capture, exportable to USB.

There is a proprietary iPad-like tablet that you can sit on a table or attach to an IV pole. I think the company charges $5k for this. You attach the scope, use as normal, and dispose of in a bin that the company retrieves. Each scope is $100 or so (I think, I'm not in admin so I don't know for sure) and I believe you can bill the patient's insurance for the device.

Unless you're doing a ton of head/neck, I think this is a great midway point between traditional fiberoptic spyglass setup and a real video tower/stack that costs $50k.

This is super cool

I can vouch for Ambuscope. I do probably 10-15 scopes per month and it does the trick. Rigidity is just right in my opinion, actually better than some of the Olympus scopes. No issues with getting scope cleaned. Focus is auto and this bothers some people, but its good and I haven't run into focus issues.

What did it cost?
They gave a discount I guess, which probably means you just ask for it, on the biggest of the screens, which ended up being $2500. My hospital works with them, so there's already a pretty strong relationship. They gave a few scopes, but it looks like the 5 pack of scopes will cost around $900. Won't use them on everyone, but for consults and short term followups this will be perfect. Have to transfer pics with jump drive.

That is certainly less expensive that the prices they offered to us. 🙂
It's a good deal, go for it!

Maybe things have changed. Not sure what time period that was, but I suspect business has exploded for them and will continue to do so post covid as I think they'll have a pretty strong bronchoscopy footing. Maybe cheaper now that they've scaled up.
