Any news as to the progress and/or expected start date for the em program in LV?

I have left messages with the contact people regarding this and have heard nothing back. Thanks!

I'm doing a rotation here (UMC-Vegas) now, and my sig other is applying to EM this year and I've asked around a bit and it is definitely not this year. I've heard that maybe it will start next year or two years from now (but nothing definite of course). Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I'm at the hospital and no one seems to know.

This gets mentioned every time the local papers have an article about the academic hospital that UN wants to open with Pittsburgh. The mayor wants it but the local hospitals and some of the med organizations don't and there's drama over who pays and who keeps any profits. See link

One of the high points is that they want to add residencies to LV (only IM/FP/Peds/Surg right now if my brain is working). I doubt anything will happen until the whole shebang gets straightened out. Another way politics gets in the way of teaching. If the hospital deal falls thru then maybe UMC can open the program like it wants to.
BTW, DocB, our EMED interest group is up and running at Touro. Anyone contact you yet regarding possible speaking/shadowing/general helping out? Interested? Any other LV docs out there?

I'll lay 3 to 1 it isn't until 2007.

I'll cover that bet, but I'm placing a side bet that it's not up till 2008 (just covering all contingencies). Damn, Vegas is getting to me...
