I'm starting my third year. Freshman grades sucked and dipped each term, but have a noticeable upward trend going. Last year, i started my ochem and physics series. Moved from a C+ in both classes in the fall to a B+ in both classes in the spring. I also took recommended classes like biochem (A-) and bacteriology (B+) very recently. Anyway my overall gpa is at a 3.27 and science gpa at 3.17. How bad is this?

I still need to take ochem lab and some bio major upper div courses that will probably be done by the end of this year. I plan on taking the DAT in the winter. How high should I be aiming (like a minimum I should not dip below in my situation).

Any other suggestions. Also besides biochem and bacteriology, what other courses are recommended? I took intro psych (ucla req) at a community college and that's fine right?

All this is assuming I apply by the end of my third year.

You sound alot like me, a horrible freshman year also has me sitting at a 3.27 even though I've done awesome since then. I'm really not sure I'll ever get it up to a 3.5, I'll be lucky if I end up with a 3.4. As for the classes, what I've done is looked at dental school's first and second year curriculum and then try to take as many similar classes. (Biochem, Anatomy, etc.) Hopefully they'll notice the upward trend and give us a chance huh?

I know that Physiology, Microbiology, Anatomy, and Cell Biology are all recommended at a lot of schools. Do well in those classes and 20's across the board with the DAT and you should be in the mix.

my overall gpa and science gpa are similiar to yours. i hope to get accepted this year. check out my DAT scores under predents profile; not great but hopefully ok. have an MBA (3.5gpa) if that matters that i completed in 1 year while working 30 hrs per week.

good luck. since our gpa's are similiar, see if i get accepted with my ok slight above avg dat scores, then you will have an idea. but gpa and dat are not everything, keep that in mind. there are many people that get rejected from schools even if there dat or gpa are great. leadership, volunteer, shadowing....all play a factor and each school decides what is important at their school

Just do as well and you can from here on out. Try to make all As and get that sci GPA up to a ~3.3/3.4 when you apply. Do well on your DAT (>20) and apply early.

oh btw, is there a site that can let me input my current grades and show me the exact gpa (overall and science) i have? the reason is because i need to add in my community college classes as well. i only know my gpa from the cc and my current univ separately. even though im not applying yet, can i actually access the aadsas and just update my grades in there every now and then to see how the gpa is coming along?
