So I just finished my last batch of 2ndaries today. Would I be considered last of the pack, or slightly preceding the turtles? I guess I'll receive interviews in March/April if I get any eh?😳 Acceptances follow in next August? God I'm such an idiot🙁.

waste of money. Sure you'll hear cases about people that got in with lesser stats, but realistically unless you actually have 3.8+, 36+, you'll be wasting resources IMO, not to mention you'll have to apply as a reapplicant at most schools (according to some posts on SDN some schools have a policy that you didn't "apply" if you didn't turn in a complete secondary, although it depends on a case by case basis).

I applied early June and trust me, this cycle has been hard enough. This game is all about maximizing your advantages.

finished my first secondary late august/early sepetember. last one early october. 7 interview invites so far. 5 of which are from top 20 schools.

i don't think you are deathly late.... =/

Every 3 weeks after August 1st is about a 1 pt decrease in LizzyM points.

The SDN hordes strike again.

You're not the last of the pack, and if you're a strong candidate, you'll still be strong even with the late-in-the-cycle application.

I submitted a secondary on the last day the school would accept them, and I've received an interview invite for that school. You may still have a chance. Good luck! :luck:

👍 Haha...I agree with the previous two posts. Though, clearly don't have the early-app advantage, you're definitely not out of the game. I submitted most of my secondaries mid to late Sept. as well. Hope we both have good news at the end of the cycle. Good luck :luck:

Damn, I don't have 3.8+ nor 36+. I really don't know what a strong candidate is anymore after lurking on SDN for so long. I think I'm an average candidate compared to people on SDN (cgpa 3.78, sgpa 3.82, 35R 12/9/14, shadowing, started own summer robotics camp business, frosh week, research, hospital volunteering). I applied to over 20 schools within my gpa/mcat range, so hopefully they will get to the bottom of the pile within a month or two! I guess it hurts I live in Canada with American citizenship as well?😳

1) Take postbacc classes to bring GPA above 3.8

2) Retake MCAT. 36 is the new 30 so you basically have a 29 right now. Also a 9 in any section is a red flag.

3) Move back to America. Canada sucks anyway.

4) What does robotics camp have to do with med school? Go into underserved communities and change some diapers.

😳, Canada is awesome, and I'm sure changing diapers are the last thing on the minds of the underserved. Maybe starting a diaper drive would be a better way to spend my time?

Why did you wait until now? Serious question. You have great stats and if you've really been lurking on SDN, you know that turning apps in early is crucial if you want to maximize your chances.

In all honesty, I think you'll be fine as long as you applied to a decent breadth of schools. I just don't get why you'd shoot yourself in the foot. In this game, I don't see the point in handicapping yourself.

I had a late MCAT retake, got score in September, and with primaries taking so long to verify....it was like early October already. I literally am an idiot for not reading enough/talking to enough people about this process. My friend told me the MCAT score was mandatory before we could submit the application, and I put too much faith in him. I really have only myself to fault for this pickle, but its ok, I'll be on SDN preaching my experience to prevent other people from shooting themselves in the foot.

I see, that's unfortunate. Again, as long as you applied to a good range of schools my guess would be that you'll get in somewhere. You're certainly qualified for it. Best of luck!

You do know that you need your MCAT scores to be complete. Without the scores on file, they won't even look at your application, and if your old scores were bad you don't want them looking anyway until you get your new ones.

Thanks Ioho.

Yea, but I could have been completed around mid Sept after my MCAT scores were in, rather than just begin verifying at that point. Don't medical schools get to see all your MCAT scores anyways? I really am a noob with this whole bureaucratic process.

Wait a second. I don't mean to be hating on you in this thread or anything like that, but really think about what you are telling people. I have been bashed incessantly on this website for ALWAYS talking about the MCAT. I go far, but this is just WAY WAY WAY too far. Come back to Earth man. Really??

Thanks Ioho.

Oh, I don't know for sure. Better ask LizzyM. I don't want to tell you the wrong thing and have the "blind leading the blind" per se, as it happens FAR too many times on this forum.

We do see good applicants who apply late and there is a squeeze in the final weeks of application reading as we have more good applicants than we have interview slots. However, and I keep coming back to this... it is an electronic system now rather than paper and we can sort and review and resort and review and the cream rises to the top daily so a really good applicant is unlikely to get overlooked as might have happened 10 yrs ago.

Thanks Ioho.

I think you can submit your application and have it going through the verification process before you take your MCAT; when MCAT scores are released, schools get them. Of course, the risk there is that MCAT scores are lower than you hoped and are released to schools regardless. You would have been right to submit your primary before receiving your MCAT scores, but what's done is done.

BTW, I was told not to submit my primary until all my LORs were in (and therefore submitted in late July rather than in early June when the rest of my app was ready), so I feel your pain.

Don't worry man, hopefully the cream settles to the top this cycle🙂. If not, we can make that cream more creamier for next cycle😉.

youve certainly not helped yourself...schools save spots for people like you, I know sombody that got accepted in august after orientation had alreaady started.

FWIW, I just got an invite for a screened secondary today, so something is still looking at what comes in...

Plus, that means you beat me on your secondaries, so now you can say, "Glad I'm not that guy!"
