Hey Guys,
I took the DATs Dec 16th, for the second time:

AA 20
Science 21
PAT 15
UCLA AADSAS GPA: 2.9 something
Lots of dental and research experience

AADSAS application recieved in late July

I faxed my scores to all the schools....should I call them and ask them the status of my application? Is that bugging them too much? Is there anything more I can do? Thanks in advance guys

Better Luck Next Round!

Well, I think 1st of all, your GPA will not let you in the game this late.

2nd of all, PAT 15, can hurt you at some places.

Those stats will get you a front row ticket if you apply early next year.

I might be wrong, give it a shot if you feel its not late.

Agreed. It doesn't look good since you only recently took the dat's. Just ask perfect3435

i disagree with the above posters. Dont lose hope! I know people that submitted later and still got in. Granted it wasnt their top choice, but it was somewhere. Just keep in contact with your schools and show interest. We have very very similar stats. except for the PAT. good luck.

Too late? No. Up hill battle? Yes. Of course it isn't too late because you can apply clear until the first day of class. But it doesn't help you that you have a state school of CA (very popular with a lot of smarty pants that reside there) and and that your PAT is 15. But all it takes is an interview with hopefully the dean of admissions (all luck in who you get) and that he/she is having a good day and accepts you on the spot instead of having to put you in the big stack of applicants. Oh, and what was your PAT score from the first time??? Some schools consider the highest of the 2 on each section and combine your two tests. Good luck. DON'T GIVE UP!! Just be smart as to where you apply.

My take: Your GPA isn't good (but you certainly don't need me to tell you that).

Your DAT scores on that retry are great. If you faxed the scores to the schools, that ought to be good enough. I don't know if it's good enough to get you any interviews, however.

Schools certainly have spots and they certainly are still interviewing, but they may view your GPA as a hinderance, especially when coupled with new DAT scores arriving so late.

If you were to apply next year, like somebody else already mentioned, your odds would increase greatly simply by having your application in the pile before everybody else.

But to answer your question: calling the schools is NOT bugging them! After all, we're talking about your professional future! The worst they can do is say the class is full, etc, etc. The BEST they can do is say that your new scores look great, and won't you come in for an interview?

Don't harass them, but let them know about your new DAT scores and make sure they are aware that official ones will be coming!

Best of luck to you.

(And remember that 99% of the schools won't be back in the office until the first week of January now.)

master in genetics from india evaluated here in US and gpa undergrad 3.53, and bachelor & masters 3.88. Schools i want to apply temple, penn, umaryland. I know i donot have any chance in this cycle do you think there is any chance for me if i apply early in next cycle. i got research exp and shadow my dentist for 6 months..PLEASE HELP ...and please let me know how they consider your initial sudies from another country..

Your biology score will definitely hurt you....your PAT will hurt you at some schools. All hope is not lost however, your GPA is quite competitive and should make up for the DAT. I think you will have good chances especially next year, but I don't think it would hurt to apply this year if you have the money.

we have talked about this in the other thread.Again, your GPA is great. But you are fighting against time. Your schools may not even review your application till end of January, assuming you submit your aadsas this week. There is a slight chance that you will get in. If you have extra money to spare, go ahead.

If not, I would save the money for application and take a kaplan course or something to boost your DAT. If you, Harpreet, are applying next year, you should re-take DAT and improve on your bio, qr and PAT. And apply early next year. Meanwhile, find a dental assistant job so that you can pay for your expense. And of cos, have a happy holiday =)
