Is it a waste of $$ to do secondaries for out of state schools at this point. I interviewed at a SUNY recently and spoke to students who finished 20+ secondaries within JULY. This obviously made me a bit insecure about my chances at an interview if i do secondaries right now. I'm from NY and have finished most of the NY secondaries.

I don't think Sept. is too late. It's not as early as some, but if you have decent stats you shouldn't have a problem. I'm submitting one more secondary to an OOS school at the end of the week, but it's a private school.

I heard that outside the SDN world, finishing secondaries now isn't going to put you at an advantage but won't be a significant disadvantage.

Then again - this is just what I've heard - does someone know better?

the outside world is a "mess" compared to SDN. I don't talk to too many pre-meds, but the ones I have talked to are still finishing their secondaries, and some even took the september mcat.

Yeah but I'm sure SDN is a small, small proportion of the rest of the "mess."

My school premed advisor of 30 years just laughs whenever someone mentions SDN.

She thinks it's a great resource but unnecessarily makes people worried.

SDN just previews a skewed sample - ie. people are more likely to come here to say they got in/invited than rejected, so it seems "everyone" are getting invites.

Not to mention the gunners who are telling the OP not to apply so that they have less competition...

Gah. I hope this is true. I'm only half way done with my secondaries and still waiting on a letter... and I keep worrying all the interview slots are already taken! Nice to know that there are still a lot of people out there in the same boat.

I don't really have any excuse for my tardiness apart from being burnt out. The prospect of writing 7 more secondaries is stomach churning.

Now that I'm starting cranking them out, they're not that bad...just annoying.

You can easily recycle essays.

In a way, feeling like crap about your apps can be a good thing. I am feeling so hopeless right now that I'm borderline depressed. The good thing is that if I do make it in this round, it will be a day to remember.

One must remember that SDN is a collection of the most neurotic and obsessive compulsive students on the planet. Not necessarily a bad thing when we are all looking to become doctors. However, SDN late and real world late aren't even in the same ball park. Yes the majority of SNDers had their primaries in the day the application opened and secondaries submitted days later. However, at my school and I would imagine most schools there are a bunch of kids who are still finishing their primaries and waiting on them to be verified. Take a deep breathe and knock out all the secondaries you can afford because at some point it is just a numbers game.

I am still waiting for my transcripts to be verified by AMCAS, and I am working on my first secondary. I just don't know what to write, I am out of gas from my AMCAS App.

You better get some more gas then. Secondaries are a long process...
