I had a interview at nyu today but canceled my interview a little over a week through email after I got acceptance letters from some of my priority schools.
I didn't get a reply but didn't call or email back to recheck on the cancellation since I was busy with my finals up to yesterday. Just to make sure, I called yesterday around 4 eastern time to student affairs but the office was already closed and I called just a minuted ago to check once more and they said they didn't get the email and would have to go through their emails once more..
The person who answered got really angry so I explained the situation and apologized..

I'm just concerned if this would have any affect on the acceptance that I got from other schools..
I know this might sound a bit stupid, but I'm just concerned that nyu would call the schools I got accepted to and complain since she was asking specificly why I'm not coming to nyu and which schools I got accepted to..
Does anybody have similar experiences as me where they ended up canceling their interview late?

There's no way that would happen.

I reckon they must have had a few people not even bother to call to say they wont be attending the interview. Not to mention that surely calling other schools to tell them about you cancelling their interview late would be some form of slander.

No school would decide to reject you after accepting you because another school called to say you cancelled an interview late!

It might have affected how favourably NYU would have looked upon you in the interview if you had changed the interview time but I doubt even that would have happened if you had had a genuine reason for changing last minute.

Relax! It's just not gonna happen!

just relax...you're fine...i've cancelled an interview a week before it and no one said anything....just curious, what did the angry person say?

Well, you really can't blame the person for being angry. Looking at the situation from their perspective, it takes a lot of time shuffling to put a person on a particular date; on another level, because you cancelled your interview at such a a late date, they probably can't find a substitute on such a short notice and therefore has lost out on a chance for a suitable candidate, perhaps even a good one (considering that it's getting late in the game). Personally, as someone who values my word and other people's time, I would have made every effort to get the word through as early as possible. The best way to do this would not have been through email, but through the phone by leaving a message if necessary. That's what I did with the schools that called me but in whom I am not interested (Tufts, BU, USC, UH).

But in the end, no, it will not affect your situation now.

I have called three schools to cancel interviews and they have all asked why I am not attending the interview and where I decided to go. Asking a reason for the cancelation might just be policy, but the angry voice was due to the short notice.

Yes, I agree and do understand why the person got angry and truly apologized.. I sent a email a couple of days after I got my acceptance letters because I had to think a bit on wether nyu would be right for me.. then I was just going so crazy studying for my finals that I put off rechecking the school..But now I really do regret that I didn't notice them through phone..

She said although most of the class is already full they still planned to interview and now they would have to spend extra days for the interview because of people that cancel the interview late like me..

I canceled one too and I don't feel much sympathy for them. By not giving me a pre-Dec 1st interview they were basically saying I'm not one of their prefered candidates. Turns out the feeling was mutual. Besides, if you have no intention of going to school there (now that you know you're in somewhere else), why show up and waste even more of everyone's time?
