I have interviews to the following schools:
Wisconsin-Madison-Late Feb
Indiana-Mid Feb
Duke-Feb
Wake Forest-Feb
Cornell-end of Jan
Albert Einstein-End of Jan
Temple-End of Jan
USC-March
Oklahoma-Just had it
B/c they are so late am I at huge disadvantage?
I'm kind of freaking out? I was happy to get all these interviews but now I'm thinking that I might not even get in any of these places?

Thanks.

Congrats on all those interviews!! January interviews aren't too late. I mean, in general, it is true that the later your interview is, the lower chance you have of getting in just because you're competing for less seats. Interviewing in Feb for Duke isn't a big deal... they are non-rolling. However, if you have interviews at Cornell and Duke, you must be a pretty strong applicant. So you still have a good shot at getting in. It's people like me who have lower than average stats who need to worry if they have really late interviews.

Good luck :luck:

I don't know about the schools you listed, but your chances are solely dependent on the system the individual schools use for their admissions process. Some schools start accepting from day one of the interviews and these classes should already be full or close to full by now. Other schools don't start accepting candidates until late in the season and these schools will still have plenty of spots. And, lastly, there are those schools that mandatorily fall somewhere in the middle. You could try to find out which system each of the schools on your list uses by either talking directly with each admissions office or by talking with the med students at each institution. If you don't wish to go through the trouble, you could safely assume that there are less spots to offer at this stage. Regardless, it is still a great sign that you were actually extended an invitation to be interviewed by all of those institutions. If things don't play out this year, you'll definitely have a better chance for next year.

hey these are great interviews; if you are a good applicant i dont think they will discriminate too much based on the timing. When were you complete at these schools? I was complete late and hoping to death that im going to hear from some of these schools but the hope is fading....

tinkerbelle, don't put yourself down, you're a great applicant.

and to the OP: I started a thread about this a couple hours ago b/c I'm concerned about the same thing...

The only thing you can do is go to your interviews and knock their socks off. I have a bunch of interviews coming up in February and I don't plan on counting myself out. If they like you and want you, they will make sure you get in. Just my 2 cents 😉

I agree. Us pre-meds worry far too much about things that we can't change. You have to go into the interview with the idea that you can and will get accepted if you do well in the interview - any other attitude and you're wasting your time.

Can I add my opinion without being accused of being cocky?

Thanks. So, I actually have a different take. I think the later the interview, the better your chances. There is a reason they ask for passport photographs at places like Columbia, Cornell, Yale and even Harvard (read Marian's e-mail HST applicants, it is in the fine print). They ask for photographs so they don't forget you. I actually had a discussion with my interviewer at Yale. (This guy actually gave me all the details about how things go down in the adcom meetings). He said that photographs are needed to help the memory of your interviewer as they represent your interests to the committee. That said, imagine if you're a late interviewee and you do an excellent job at the interview. You'll be remembered. Case in point: dear friend who now attends UPenn. Interviewed at the absolutely last day and got in two weeks later when admissions were announced. She had the same concerns as the OP at the time.

I like to hear that!

Did Cornell ask for a photo to be submitted with the secondary? I don't remember doing that... Did Harvard? Or do people just bring it with them?

Let's see, I believe Yale asked for two and Cornell three (or vice versa). They were required at the interview. Harvard HST recommends sending one after or at the interview.
