Hey Community,
There have been a few support threads started about late interviews. I wanted to start one because I'm still waiting to hear back from 4 schools, mostly DO, and wanted to see if there was anyone else in the same boat. Has anyone received interview invites this late? Is calling the schools or appealing for an interview worth it?

Yes I know two of my friends received IV in late April and interviewed at the beginning of May, still got in. To write a LOI or call will not hurt. Good luck!

Thank you!!
Do you recall what schools? or if they were DO? I've written at least 2 LOI to all of the schools on my list 😕

#1 NEVER write LOIs to multiple schools. People at these high levels know each other and some may talk; if they find out you've written multiple LOIs , then you're effectively DOA. So, damage is already done with you, but for others, don't do this.

#2. I was interview in April, and accepted. It was to a well known DO school. You still got a chance!

I think the OP means letters of interest since OP is pre-interview.

Will letters of interest help? Maybe if they contain significant updates or information that suggests you're likely to attend i.e. have strong connection to the area.

Solid point, didn't catch that when I was typing my reply.

The letters were all about a new job and academic success. None of them were fluffy lies. I didn't send "you are my top school" to 5 different places.
Thanks guys, I got real scared for a second there

I'm trying to say this in the nicest possible way, but the bolded reeks of entitlement and is a good way to get rejected immediately.

What you should be doing is working on your Plan B.

I think that my school is done offering invites.

Your only hope is that someone dumps an interview and they want a local body to fill it, fast.

To play devil's advocate, while there is absolutely still a chance, the truth is that chance is very low. Most applicants who get really late interviews either applied late in the cycle or had a game-changing update that was able to move the needle enough to get an interview. Calling the school will do very little for you, good or bad.

I've gotten 2 ii in the past two days, DMU/TUNCOM, so it's definitely still possible. I'll decline now and hope it goes to you 😉

Didn't apply late in the cycle either.

I'll make sure to tell them that "@camoixu said I could have these". Thanks, though you're great. Congrats on getting in!!

p.s. Goro, I have not been cold calling schools. I've just heard a weird amount of anecdotes where people called the school to make and case and then 3 days later got an interview. In the mean time, I am not naive I'm in a post bacc and am studying for the MCAT again.

Realistically speaking now is the time to think about the "next cycle".

if you have any academic or significant updates to provide to schools who have not given you a final decision yet, you should send that now. otherwise prepare for the new application cycle that opens in a few months.

Start preparing for the next cycle. Things are very late now. You are likely not going to hear back at this point, and if you do, you're not likely to gain an acceptance outright as seats are basically filled up at this point. You should start working on your application and try to find out what went wrong. Is it a GPA/MCAT thing? Then you should try and improve on that before throwing out another few thousand $$ on an app cycle.

Most people have trouble with the idea of cause and effect.

Yes it’s possible, I received them. However it’s unlikely given that there are less interview/admission spots available.

I took it as a bonus surprise 🙂
