I'm taking my MCATs mid-July. I plan on applying to a mix of both MD and MD/PhD programs. I really want to get into an MSTP program, but for practical reasons, I am adding some MD only programs just in case and hope that I can either apply later if I actually get into a school (or just try to follow the footsteps of other MD only's who are now PIs). Would taking a mid-July MCAT be as disadvantageous for MD/PhD applicants as it would be for MD only programs (from the looks of some of the threads in the pre-allo forum, some people say it'll make a huge difference for MD only while others say its not so bad if you're verified before getting your score back)? It seems like a lot of MSTP programs claim they do not operate on a rolling-basis, but in real life, you're competing for less and less interview spots the later you apply right? 🙁

You'll be fine. Just work on your secondaries and send them in as early as you can, so you can be complete as soon as you receive your MCAT score or shortly thereafter.

Thanks! This might be a little harder since not as many secondaries for MSTP programs are listed on SDN like the md-only apps (the sticky only has a handful). For the most part, are they the same?

Hey! I'm in the same exact boat as you. Applying to a mix of MD/PhD and MD programs and I'm registered to take the MCAT July 17th. I'm also not really sure about verifying before my score is in. My pre-med advisor (who, in addition to being Satan incarnate is also a wealth of misinformation) told me that the only down side would be if my score is either more or less competitive than I expect, and I end up paying to apply to schools that I'm either too competitive or not at all competitive for. Personally though, I'm willing to take that chance. And if that's the only down side to verifying without a score, I'm going to go ahead and do it.

I was going to follow the consensus in all the old posts I read and just put down one school to be verified (one school that I would not mind if I got rejected but would still consider going to). Once I get my score, I will apply accordingly, still mixing stuff up.

Good luck! :luck:
