Hello!

I'm new to the forum and wanted to get a little DO advice.

First off: I submitted my application and transcripts to AACOM November 1st, and I was wondering about how long it takes for AACOM to recognize that they have received the transcript and after that how long it takes for the schools to receive my application from AACOM. I sent my transcript overnight air, and it should have been received a few days ago, but has not shown as "received" on the AACOM site.

Second: I wanted to get a little input on the timeframe for the Osteopathic admissions process. I figured that I applied late, but want to make sure that I'm not "too late" for all practical purposes.

I have a good list of activities including a couple of years of research, shadowing with two doctors (No DOs though), and various other activities.

Academically:
BCMP: 3.5
All Others: 3.95
Overall: 3.65
Mcat: 34Q (12 PS, 11 VR, 11 BS, Q)

Just wanted to know what everyones thoughts are on my chances at the schools I applied to: UHSC DMUC KCOM MSUC AZCO

Thanks for any input... it would be greatly appreciated.

Mark

It's always best to apply early but even so I think you have a good chance at getting interviews based on your stats. Of course, I haven't read your PS, and I'm not an adcom. But if you show strong motivation and dedication to the DO way, you shouldn't worry too much. Good luck :luck:

And to answer your other questions, I was processed within a week after they received everything, and within 2 weeks after the schools received my app I had all my secondaries. Interview invites have come as soon as 3 days of being complete and up to 2 months of being complete, so it all depends on the school IMO. DMU, KCOM, and AZCOM were really quick at everything. Just be patient, it's hard but if you keep your mind on something else it'll go by fast.

Thank you for the advice. AACOM now says they have received my transcript... so hopefully the application will go out soon. 🙂

Those are awesome stats. You'll def get an interview if your secondaries and personal statement are stellar. It took about 4 wks for everything w/ aacomas to be processed and i received secondaries about 2 wks afterwards. Volunteer activities are important and how meaningful they are to you...esp w/ DO med schools. Getting a letter from a DO is not too much of a big deal. I was accepted w/out one but some schools require DO only like Lake Erie, Nova, etc. Best of luck on your app process! 🙂

Hey! Thanks so much for the confidence. I'm just dying waiting for AACOM to process the app. I guess I better just sit back and let them have some time.

Thanks for all the help.

In your spare time, you can probably do some searches on here to see if you can find links for online secondaries...you could possibly get a head start on some of the essays. At least, you could do a little extra research so that you know what you will say uniquely draws you to each individual school (this is on almost every secondary and if not there in the interview).

Secondly, GET YOUR LETTERS OF RECCOMENDATION NOW!!! I can not stress that enough; I ran into a lot of problems with LORs even though I thought I had everything lined up way before I ever submitted my application.

Good luck...and I wouldn't worry about getting in with those stats. Even though you are late in the application process, most schools salivate over a MCAT score like that. I have similar stats with a 26 and have gotten into the only 2 schools I have interviewed at.

Thanks! That is great advice. I'll start my search soon. At the moment I have a few allopathic secondaries to work on. 🙂
