Am I late into applying for 2012 optometry?

Late...yes. Too late...no. The application cycle opened in July 2011. It doesn't officially close until June 2012, but most schools are to the point of only admitting students to their waitlists by late February. It's definitely worth calling admissions offices and asking them if they are still interviewing for admission or if they are only filling their waitlists now. Some of them will be really open with you that that is the case whether you ask or not, but others won't be. It's definitely possible to get into a school off a waitlist at this point, but there is a lot more competition for those few spots left now that it's down to the wire.

Illinois deadline is march 1st, 2012. I just sent in my transcripts today. Working on my essay. Should take my OAT february 28. Guess I'm not running that late eh? 🙂

That might be their final deadline, but they still are sometimes only interviewing for their waitlist well before that deadline. I highly suggest calling their admissions office to ask just so you know going into it!

I agree. Ask them for any inside info so you can see how many slots are already filled etc. etc.

Yes . . . that is very late. Did you read the comment above, about schools only filling their waitlists later in the cycle? If the school will review your application and offer an interview without your OAT scores, you may be in a better position, but you still put yourself at a disadvantage by applying late.
