what are the opinions on when it the latest date i should take the dat? my application is in but i need good test scores. i was shooting for oct. 15th, or 1 month from now.

hey, I was advised by the dean of admissions at a highly regarded university to take it no later than January...which means you should take it early December at the very latest if you have to wait 3 weeks for the scores. I'd call all the schools I applied to and ask though, get the answer from the source.

Most schools have already started interviewing, and a few have already scheduled interviews through the rest of the year. The first acceptance letters are sent out the beginning of December and by that point in time most schools will have already scheduled their remaining interviews. I don't want to rain on your parade but when it comes to applying for dental school, and for anything that is somewhat competitive for that matter, it is always a better idea to send in everything at the earliest date, and not be so concerned when the latest date is. By submitting your scores at the latest date possible you are digging your own grave. All that being said, you might still have a chance since I've heard of people getting accepted even when applying late. Every year the applicant pool gets bigger and more competitive so I wouldn't take the previous statement about applying late and still getting in as something that continues to happen. If I were in your shoes I would keep studying until I was sure that I would do really well on the DAT and then take it. A great score on the DAT might still not get you a spot at a dental school this application year, but at least you won't have to study for the same test next year in the case you need to reapply. I know this might be a depressing post and I'm not trying to be negative, I am just trying to make sure that you realize the situation you are in so you can make decisions accordingly! Best of luck to you, and I hope you kill the DAT! 👍
