Lazy Summer... Buying and selling stock online

I remember there was a thread awhile back regarding students that had graduated early and were attending med school next fall, and what they were spending their time on over the summer, etc.

I have a little money and was thinking about playing around buying and selling stocks online via something like E-Trade...

I was wondering if anyone else has played around with this and if there are particular websites you prefer using?

I'd like to throw $500 or so in and maybe learn something along the way buying and selling my own stocks.

Suggestions?

use sogotrade.. like 100 free trades in the first month, and only $3 per trade... pretty cheap compared to e-trade
