Greetings all,

I have heard a lot of people complaining about my school... I have to be honest with you, life at LECOM - Bradenton is pretty cherry... Granted our library is not exactly U of M calibur, and we have no book store, but besides the typical growing pains of a new school, life has been good. The perks of the LECOM are too numerous to list, but the negatives are few and far between. They are honest and up front with you regarding the rules...if you don't feel like you can follow rules (ie. dress code, no food in the halls, etc.) then go to one of the numerous other schools that you have gained acceptance. Another note....PBL is not for everyone... It takes a lot of faith and self discipline to make it through, and as the end of my MS I year draws near (3wks to go) I feel as though the school has done an excellent job in preparing me.

Anyone interested in a more detailed opinion feel free to email me.... Otherwise, good luck for those of you accepted, and keep plugging for those of you that didn't make it this round....

It's nice to hear that. I'm interested in the area. Are you satisfied with that as well? I've heard LECOM-B isn't in Bradenton but actually in Lakewood Ranch or something. I guess that's where students spend their time? What is it like? 🙂

Yeah, the school is in Lakewood Ranch, a development in Bradenton/Sarasota. It is next to the YMCA, and L.R.H.S. This area has and is experiecing rapid growth. As far as students spending their time, it is all a matter of preference. I don't spend a lot of time at the school unless it is required. I find it easier to study elsewhere...usually Panera Bread is the place to find me... St. Pete and Tampa are just a short drive north... So, yeah, there is a lot to do...if you know where to look... In fact, I was at game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals this past Tuesday... Too bad Tampa got it handed to them... Any specific questions fire me an email and I'll be sure to respond.

I guess one might call Lakewood Ranch a suburb of Bradenton, which sounds a little funny since Bradenton isn't that large of a city. Sarasota, ~20 minutes to the south, is a slightly larger city and has more of a downtown than Bradenton. I'll defer to the comments of those with more experience as to how the living is, but I will say my impression after spending some time in the area house hunting is very positive. One negative point is that most commuting is done on surface streets which tend to have high volumes during the "season" - ~Nov.- May. The area has a nice balance of things to do, cultural attractions and of course, the beach. As long as you are OK living with with rich old people, I think you will like it. 😀
