Well, I wouldn't rush out and buy all those books if I were you. Since, you guys start with anatomy, histo and embryo I would only get some of those books. I used rohen, netter, the anatomy BRS (board review series) and the power point notes. For histo and embryo I just used the power points.

1 Clinically Oriented Anatomy (Moore) No, chances are you will not read it. There is a small Moore anatomy, that they used last year that could be useful, but avoid the Big Moore. BRS is a good book too.
2 a choice of anatomy atlases such as moses, clemente, netter, agur, rohenGet one atlas that you like best,
3 langmans medical embyryology (sadler)no
4 histology: a text and atlas (ross)no
5 Osteopathic approach (digiovanna) or foundations of osteo (ward)yes to Digiovanna b/c it has lots of pics, short exlpaniations, and is much smaller than Foundations.
6 basic medical biochemistry (marks)1 Clinically Oriented Anatomy (Moore)
7 medical genetics (jorde)no
8 basic clinical pharmacology (katzung)total waste of money, avoid
9 principles of physiology (levy)no, BRS review would be good to have and write notes in, but the powerpoints cover everything
10 medical microbiology (murray)no, micro made simple is good to have though
11 immunology for medical students(nairn)depends on your innumo backgroud, if you are weak you may want your own refrence
12 robbins pathologic basis of diseases (kumar)good refrence, but I used it very rarely. power points were enough.

and a bunch of recommended texts
13 physical exam of spine (hobbenfeld)good refrence, but not used much
14 pharmacology: exam and review (trevor)could be a worthwhile investment, but TQ's will not come from this book. If you want a pharm book this might be worth it.
15 dorland's illustrated dictionary or stedman'scould be useful

Please note I was LDP, so the recommendations above are for LDP only, NOT PBL or ISP. All of your TQ's will come from the lecture notes and not books. Occasionally there will be an exception, but 99% of the time the notes are enough.

Goodluck,
Steve

1 Clinically Oriented Anatomy (Moore) I liked and used this, in addition to BRS
2 a choice of anatomy atlases such as moses, clemente, netter, agur, rohen Netter and rohen seem to be popular
3 langmans medical embyryology (sadler) I didn't buy
4 histology: a text and atlas (ross) never used
5 Osteopathic approach (digiovanna) or foundations of osteo (ward) Never used foundations, took it back and got digiovanna. I'm very happy with digiovanna
6 basic medical biochemistry (marks) I didn't use it much, but my roomate did.
7 medical genetics (jorde) didn't buy
8 basic clinical pharmacology (katzung) didn't buy
9 principles of physiology (levy) Didn't buy, and I have been told it is not helpfull
10 medical microbiology (murray) didn't buy
11 immunology for medical students(nairn) didn't buy, but seemed like a good book
12 robbins pathologic basis of diseases (kumar) My roommate loves this book. I like it as a reference. I didn't buy it, I use the one in the library.

and a bunch of recommended texts
13 physical exam of spine (hobbenfeld)
14 pharmacology: exam and review (trevor)
15 dorland's illustrated dictionary or stedman's

If you are a PBL student, you will need the a number of those books. However, most of my classmates found out that the Baby Katzung for Pharmacology was all that was needed for exams. BRS for Pathology and Anatomy were generally sufficient. I actually made it through OMT without purchasing DiGiovanna, but I wish I had it on clinical rotations for review. Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple (or Bugs for Dummies as I like to call it) is great for micro. Also, when you have the opportunity, invest in the Pathology GRIPE. Lots of questions from the GRIPE make their way to PBL tests, or at least they did 2 years ago. Also, always read the questions at the end of the Baby Katzung chapters and BRS chapters. You can usually get a couple of extra points on exams by becoming familiar with those questions.

Good luck! 😀
