I need some advice. I've already been accepted to LECOM Bradenton this year. However, TUCOM Las Vegas has been my first choice since I found out about the new Vegas campus. I was told that I am on the "top ten" wait list which is a good indication that I may be offered early acceptance for next year. So is it worth it to wait one more year to go to my first choice school or do I cut my losses at this point and go to LECOM?

You should just go to LECOM-B, just because from a financial stand point, you'll be missing out on another year of earning $150K+ if you wait. Also, you're already assured of a spot in LECOM-B, but is just LIKELY to be offered one at TUCOM-NV next year. Unless you really feel it's unbearable to stay in FL as opposed to NV, I think you should just stick to your current school and make the most of it. Be happy you got into a school, because several others don't even make it this far.

I'm not sure about the 150k argument, yes it's true that you may practice for one more year, but who knows? Maybe if you go to one school as opposed to the other you will decide on a different specialty, and be in Residency a year longer or shorter. Anyways, my point is there are more important things like happiness and comfort where you are. This may ultimately determine your success. If you don't wait for TUCOM-Vegas you may always be wondering. We all work so hard for this and I feel if we do have a top choice, then GO FOR IT! Hope this helps, just my thoughts.

Hey MX Chick

I totally understand how you feel. I too was once in your position, except I was accepted to LECOM-Erie instead of FL. Then one magical day in March, I was taken off the alternate list and accepted to TUCOM-LV. And as great as that was, honestly, I would have to agree with one of the previous posts. As much as you love TUCOM-LV and as much as we'd love to have you in our class...Go to LECOM-B. You are promised a seat there, and that's what counts. With school starting in like 3 weeks, I don't know how much more movement will occur. I just think LECOM-FL will be a great opportunity, since it is also an inaugural class. Plus it's in a great location.

However, if you don't want to be in a complete PBL school and you really love TUCOM and if you have the finances to wait, then more power to you. Just make sure you really make the most out of this next year and apply to TUCOM (submit AACOMAS) right away. Good luck! (maybe I'll see you next year 😉 )

..can you go to lecom-b in the fall... and still reapply to tucom?... i mean who's gonna know that you're currently in med school?... and if you get accepted to tucom later... drop out of lecom-b ... of course you'll end up losing a lot of money... but hey at least you'll have a backup plan...
....honestly though... med school is such a hassle to get into... take your seat where you can get it... and we're a great bunch at lecom-b... first class... you know they're not gonna let us fail... cheers yo-

well since you already got accepted, why don't you just wait to see how tucom pans out before you make a decision. they haven't even sent an acceptance letter from tucom yet so just sit tight to see what happens! so if tucom accepts you for next fall, then turn lecom down for this year if tucom is where you want to go!! good luck.

From what I understand, the Op has to go through the 2004-2005 application cycle again for next Fall, or did I totally misread this?

I had a friend say to me that I would be crazy to turn down an acceptance to a school for a possible position at another and that I should just go where I am accepted. (I am just on waitlists right now so basically his theory was where you get accepted to first, go) I guess that is what he would have done. So, I am just passing his advice onto you. Plus, I say go for it. I hear that the area is beautiful. The beaches the best and all sorts of plus factors. Just remember a good indication is not a sure thing. But in the end it is your decision. I don't know what I would do in your situation. I know that at one of my interviews, someone said, "If you get in ANYWHERE, GO! You are too valuable of student to be sitting a year and just waiting or reapplying. Go to where you are accepted and make yourself into a great doctor." That is my advice to you... You have a chance to go this year, go... there are many people out there that I am sure have the wish to be in your shoes with an admission acceptance in hand and pondering this dilemma. Get your life started verses putting it on hold.

I agree that you should go where accepted. In the end, it's really only two years you spend at the school. In the big scheme of things, that's nothing.

you are asked to answer the question if you have ever attended a medical school b4 on the application. if there is a way to find out, and if they do, say good bye to your seat.

do not lie.

if i was you i would go 2 LECOM-B....your acceptace to TUCOM is not for sure...there may be people who get your spot because of better scores, EC's, LOR's or even just cause the committee is having a bad day. it is different if you had gotten into almost every school you applied to...in that cause i would say that you would have a great chance of getting a seat at TUCOM but otherwise it is a gamble...go to where u were accepted if u like LECOM-B. honestly no matter which school you go to, in the future nobody is gonna care....and from getting a residency standpoint, both schools are new and not as established as some of the other ones.

anyways the point is that there are many people who wish there were in your position....unless you will be misreable then go 2 med school this year...i mean is it more important to be a doctor or to love your school and maybe one day be a doctor

Does LECOM start school before you will hear from TUCOM? If so, I would take the acceptance. If not, go where you will be most happy! Think of all of the things you can do with a freebie year. Its an opportunity you will never have again. I was in a similar position and waited a year. I went abroad and did many "dream" things. It was the best decision Ive ever made. But you have to do whats best for you.
