I'm working on a medical school feasibility initiative for a university. We are currently assessing different curriculum models and weighting their pro's and con's.

My question to this community is: what is the ratio of lecture time vs lab/breakout time at your school for the 1st and 2nd year?

And, do you find this ratio to be adequate? Do you think it could be tweaked?

Thanks!

Could you define "breakout" time? Is it just the same as lab time?

During gross anatomy, the ratio was 2:1 lecture to lab. Outside of gross, the ratio is more like 4:1 or 5:1. The lab time for gross is far, far too much - probably 4 times greater than it needs to be. Lab time looking at microanatomy and neuroanatomy (the 4: or 5:1 ratio) is still excessive but quite a bit more useful.
