Legacy??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know that on the Penn supplemental, they ask if any of your relatives are vets and if any of your relatives have gone to Penn. Not sure how much of a difference it makes, but I don't think they would ask if they didn't care.

Not to be a downer, but A Vet I worked for told me that he had an assistant who solely relied on legacy to get into vet school and he applied three times and didnt have the grades and didnt get in. Whereas this vet, who was a non-trad did. So I believe they look for more you value as grades and passion now a days. I dont think it hurts though, But I defiantly wouldnt say its a shoe in.

a girl i worked with, both of her parents were vets and went to two different schools. she applied to both of those schools and was confident she was going to get into one particular school without any trouble. she was rejected from both schools without an interview for either. maybe it depends on the school as some ask for legacy information on their supplemental (apparently?), but from my experience, i haven't seen anyone have an advantage b/c their parents were vets/attended that school.

we have a legacy in our class, which was noted at a couple of different programs.

i doubt it would get you in if you were lacking otherwise (GPA, GRE, activities, experience, LOR's, PS), but it could be one of those fudge factors that helps you be selected vs another student who is equally qualified but not a legacy.
