Does anyone have advice regarding how long the rank list should be? Granted, no specific number of interviews will gaurantee a successful match these days.

in a large field like internal medicine, the stats show that if you rank 7 programs, you will have something like a 95 or 97% chance of matching at one of the 7. however, these figures dont hold up for radonc, given the competitiveness. i ranked 12 and didnt match. i heard of someone ranking 17 and not matching. i had a friend who ranked 4 and matched. i even had a friend (a foreign medical grad) who ranked 1 optho program and matched. interview and rank as many as possible. there are no guarantees!

How many interviews are most people going on this year?

Well, I only got 8 Rad Onc interviews, but I also only applied to 11 or 12 programs. I know some folks apply to 40+ programs, so there are probably some of those lucky stellar students who have a couple dozen interviews (likely after turning some down, too).

I wonder how many total interviews a person can feasibly go to? There are only so many dates that one can go to, particularly if some overlap. What's the highest number anybody's heard? Highest I heard was around 18.

i went to about 18...12 radonc and 6 prelim. it sucked
