I am currently filling out my application and starting to feel extremely discouraged. I am currently a senior graduating this spring. I have a 3.1 GPA. My major GPA is a 3.4 and I have been doing increasingly better my last few semesters. I got a 700 on quantitative and a 410 on verbal. I have worked as a technician for 6 years and worked as a research assistant for 2 years. My lab will be sending me to Peru next summer for continuing research. I'm also from Arizona so I have no state school; closest thing is the WICHIE program. Again, I am just doubting my chances of getting in and any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you can deff get that GRE score up. Your GPA isn't great, so you can balance that out with a better GRE score. For verbal, just get the study books, memorize vocab like mad. Your score WILL go up! You did well on your math, but if you just practice more, I'm sure that'd go up too. If not, 700 is not bad.

I'd apply this time, and hey, if you don't get in, just keep improving your app over the next year and reapply. Lots of people do it!

Should I attempt to take the GRE before October and finish my application as well?

I would say that if you can study for the GRE (memorizing the vocab is very helpful as verbal_kint mentioned) in the few weeks without compromising your grades and application, then by all means, retake it before this application cycle deadline. However, I would keep in mind the positive effect having super grades your senior year could have on your final GPA. If you don't get in during this application cycle and do reapply next year, a higher GPA could really help you out. If you think that studying for the GRE, doing whatever animal/research/veterinary/other things you are doing, and doing well in your classes may be too much, then you may want to reconsider taking the GRE again at this time.

Or if you're really good at memorizing, perhaps you could take the GRE again before classes start and not have this problem at all 😀

Just some things to consider. Best of luck!
