I am an August MCATer so I've been waiting to hear from Wake Forest (they told me they wanted to wait to see my MCAT scores before sending a secondary - I got a 31R). They sent me the following letter in the mail:

You have indicated on your AMCAS application that you will have your graduate degree by matriculation in July 2005. Our policy on accepting students from a graduate program is: "If selected, the student must satisfactorily complete all requirements for the graduate degree prior to the time of enrollment of the medical school class to which he or she has been admitted." Consistent with our policy, we will require documentation from your advisor that you will complete the degree by July 01, 2005. If we do not hear from you within three weeks, your application will be withdrawn from further consideration.

I am enrolled in a Master's program and will finish by July 2005 and I will get my advisor to write to them and let them know this. I was just wondering what people thought about this or if anyone has been in a similar situaiton with them. I think this means that I have passed the screen for the secondary but that they now just need confirmation that I will complete the degree. Anyone else have an opinion on this? If I wasn't going to get the secondary anyway, wouldn't they have just rejected me by now instead of sending this letter? Thanks.

I got the same letter since I'm a Masters student as well, and as soon as I sent my letter I received a secondary (~1-2 weeks later). I also just interviewed there this past Friday, and it seemed that ~10 people in last year's class had a Masters degree.

Thanks and congrats. Do you know how tough their screen is (roughly)?

Yeah, they want your advisor to send a letter verifying that you'll be finished in time to enroll next fall. It isn't, however, a pass for the screen. I had 2 friends who each got this letter, 1 got the 2ndary the other didn't 😕 . Good luck

I was in a master's program and got the same letter. I was invited for an interview not long after I sent in my advisor's letter.

I think they are fairly selective, especially for out of state interviews (I was in-state at the time), but I don't know how much you can read into the request for your advisor's letter. :luck:

So if I don't have a secondary from Wake by now, is that bad? I am wondering if they're just being slow, or if I'm out o luck. Hrmmm 🙁

It's never over until the thin letter arrives at your door. Keep pushing for it, I hope it comes.
