How long does it take to get a letter of appointment after the match? I've been on the NRMP website and it just says that the letters are mailed after the match, but gives no timeline.

If you're still waiting for a letter from matching in March 2004, you should probably take the hint and start looking for another job.

Anyone have any real help?

Usually about a week after the match.

Yes, but maybe s/he's planning ahead. This is something you would need to know if, for example, you were planning to buy a house after the match.

Thanks everyone. I spoke to the med ed people at my #1 choice for residency (I/m an MS IV, I can't believe people would think I'm asking this question if I was already a resident), and they said it can be about 6 weeks after the match before I would get my contract and letter of appointment. I think it varies depending on the program.

I am looking into this because we are thinking of buying a new house, and getting a mortgage - I would like to show a loan officer that I am a good risk financially.

At the med ed office, I was told, however, that if I needed a letter stating that I would be an employee of said hospital and my salary would be X, they would be able to do that anytime after the match. It is done fairly often, I was told.

Thanks again to everyone.

I think there was a thread about the future employment issue after this year's match-you might want to search for it to see how it was handled by different people (and mortgage companies). The letter totally depend on the school, but since the match is binding both ways I think you should be OK with a letter stating that you matched there.
