Just wanted to get an idea how you guys approached this.

1) Only told your #1 program they are ranked #1

2) Told top few programs that they were 'ranked highly' or some sort of variation

3) Neither or Both

4) It's too late, your screwed buddy.

5) Thanks!

Just for context, I am applying Internal Medicine and will be submitting my rank list for this upcoming match.

I didn't send any "I'm ranking you highly/#1" emails to any of my programs. I'm not playing that game.

Combination of 1 and 2. But this type of thing is expected and nearly required in the field I'm applying for.

I'm also interested in the importance of these emails. After interviewing, I sent personalized thank you cards to PDs and interviewers. After that, I have not communicated much with programs. I am applying Peds. It seemed counter-intuitive to partake in this type of communication during this "match" where there are "violations" for communicating certain info with programs.
