Hi all! Last year I planned to apply to med school so I worked to get all my letter of recs in order by May. However, my MCAT score turned out to be much lower than I hoped so I decided to take a gap year and I did NOT apply last year. Now, this year I am once again readying myself to apply to medical school. I technically have all my letters of rec from last year (most from professors), however I wonder, would it look bad applying to this year's cycle with letters of rec dated from last year? Should I ask my recommenders to re upload and change the date on the letter or does that even matter? Thanks for the help!

If you can get them to update it, that would be nice. Otherwise, they’re fine as is. It should make sense to those reading the letters that you wanted to get them before graduating.

You have plenty of time to ask the prof to update the letter. Let them know what you have been doing since then and if they would kindly just add a brief update and make it dated to this year.

If they drag their feet on this request, you were probably better off without the letter in your file
