Hey everyone,

I'm planning to apply for General Surgery and am gathering together my LOR requests. Is there any problem with having a LOR from a DO vs a MD attending? I've worked closely with a DO who would be willing to write a great LOR, but would programs look at it any differently compared with an average LOR from an MD?

Thanks for your advice in advance

Thanks, yea I should clarify... I am an allopathic student and the attending is a DO surgeon.

Yeah, I've heard that a LOR from a DO might as well be a LOR from a nurse. I would be careful.

I would presume you're joking.

The anti-DO attitude of pre-meds doesn't really exist out in practice. There may be few old boys who still harbor some bias, but its not really an issue anymore when it comes to LORs.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I hope you are joking

i am a (soon to be) DO....so yes, i am whole heartedly joking....but i do have MD friends who like to joke that they will hire me as a scrub nurse when i graduate....all in good fun.
