My school's science classes were huge, and the only professors I got close to/will write letters are from my major electives. I plan on using one from my neuroscience class (she's in the Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Science department in the UCLA School of Med) and the other is the director of the East-west medicine center/ part of the Department of Medicine in the School of Med as well. Also have one from the Department of Psychiatry that I may use as well, maybe for non-science... Will those count as science letters??

-Some schools may require 2 science letters from instructors you actually took classes with
-others will accept letters from science faculty, which usually means “basic” science faculty. That means what they are a professor of, not what department they have their appointments in. Example, John Smith, PhD, associate professor of neurobiology, dept of psychiatry.
-some schools will accept research PI in lieu of course work but others may not
-you need to carefully examine each school in both the MSAR and its own website for what is required over what is recommended or preferred. Every school sets their own requirements

Thanks! Well I took classes with all of these professors as part of my neuroscience major, so I'm hoping that will be fine..

Hey gonnif quick question, how do you add LOR into your app after you submit primaries? I vaguely remember you saying you could do that but not sure how. Hope I’m not just dreaming these things

You just log back in and can edit certain pages of it (contact info, LOR) and schools sent to) so you enter it as you did pre-submission. You go through a short certification screen again but it won’t reset your application date in the verification queue.

Thank you for clarifying. So when does the app become “set in stone”?

You can always add letters and update your contact information, and send to more schools. Once schools have deadlines for letters or the primary app submission it would be pointless to send to those places though - this date is sometime from October to December and varies per school.
