My employer has written me a letter of recommendation, and she emailed it to me to read over. The letter is really good, but it is four pages long. She told me that she would be happy to make any changes I wanted. Do you think four pages is too much? I did. Should I ask her to shorten it?

Four pages is a bit much - is there a unique reason that it is so long?

Wow, four pages. Is it all substantive or is there a lot of fluff? If there is fluff, no one will read all four pages. Ideally it should be about a page. I would thank her for being so generous with her time, but gently ask if you can cut out some things so that it is more succinct.

My boss wrote a page and then she had several of my coworkers write a paragraph (about a third of a page) about me.

The letter is really good. I didn't think it was fluff, but I also didn't want it to reflect poorly on me because it was so long.
