Hey guys,

I have a quick question for you all. I am applying this upcoming year most likely and as such need to get my two science letters. One will be from a bio teacher of mine. The next closest professor I have taught me in cognitive science and is mentor and oversees my lab. Will this count as a "science" letter or will cog sci not count? Thanks for the help.

Technically the cognitive science department offers it. I assume at some schools cog sci is within a department, but at mine there is a specific department for it.

hmmm.. wait around for more opinions. I feel like it would count

Ok, thanks for the help though man. perhaps @Goro could help with this?

That's difficult to say considering cognitive science coursework is interdisciplinary.
Since you have to be tech savvy, it looks to be a science department. If you get an email back from adcoms saying that the LOR is not suitable for science prerequisite (because it does SOUND like a soc science), then you can just refute it by explaining what cog sci entails.

I personally think BPCM or the classes that factor into the sGPA would be the classes that could fulfill the science characteristic (and I don't think cog sci does :/ ). Also, gyn gyn said social science, and since he's an adcom, go with that.
