I volunteer at a free clinic and I would like to get a LOR from there. But the clinic is ran mostly by med students, nurses, and PAs. Doctors volunteer there too but usually it's a different doc each time, so it wouldn't really be possible for me to get a letter from a doc. It'd be more practical for me to get a letter from the PA who I see every week and work closely with. Would that be okay to get a LOR from a PA then? Any thoughts would help! thanks!

I think a letter from a PA that knows you very well can hold more weight than a generic letter from an MD. As long as the letter demonstrates that the writer knows you personally, knows your work ethic, and can describe your specific strengths as a medical school candidate, you're good to go.

I did not have any letters from MDs - all my letters were from former profs (PhDs), an old employer (organization director - no specific degree or title), and the coordinator of a hospital internship (again, no specific degree or title). They were all very strong and personal letters though.

Thanks for the response! Anyone else have any input about this? 🙂
