So, I have a question about a letter of rec from a research experience. As background, I have worked in the lab for 2+ years resulting in 2 first author publications and many presentations.

My question regards who should write my letter: the post-doc I spent every day with, or the professor I would check in with. I was also a TA for a class taught by each of them.

I am sure this question may have been answered elsewhere, but any advice is appreciated!!

Thank you.

Professors

Post doc is shaky

TA is definitely a no no

I would let your post-doc write your letter, let your PI read through and add whatever that the PI feels necessary, and let both of them sign the letter.

Since the post-doc worked with you more closely, in AMCAS you probably want to indicate that the letter is from your post-doc, instead of your PI. Or else, discuss with your post-doc and PI to decide who should be designated as the main "author" of your letter.
