Just a quick question about letters of rec. In my very brief research, most schools ask for at least 1 professional letter and a letter from a science professor. With that being said, what would a science professor that I do research for be considered? Professional or science?

Thanks

I'm wondering where you did you research. Most schools (MD schools at least) require 2 science prof. letters and 1 non-science prof. letter at the minimum or a committee letter. If you took a class with your PI, then that would serve as a science letter as well as a letter from your PI (which is recommended if you did research). However if you didn't take a class with him/her then it would just be a PI letter and wouldn't count as a science letter. DO schools require a letter from a DO, but MD schools don't require a letter from an MD (what I assume you mean by professional), and adcoms on SDN say that a letter from an MD you shadowed is pretty much useless.
