Hey, I'm a pre-med also in the same boat as most of you: sub-3.0 BCPM, although I have some clinical experience and research in lab. I was just wondering what you guys are going to do for letters of recommendation. For example, what if you want a LOR from a professor (meaning you'll have to show the writer a copy of your transcript). How do you plan on explaining the low grades? I don't just want to say "Oh, I just wanted to mess around freshman year..my transition year..." Any ideas on how you guys handled it or will handle it?

Well of course you're not going to tell them you 'messed around' but just think about being in their shoes and what would convince them. The professors are not animals and would generally be sympathetic to issues such as maturity level as a freshman, lack of motivation and concentration in a new environment, etc, etc...

I would say the most important thing is to show you admit your mistakes in the past, have grown because of them, and am now fully focused with a greater level of maturity.

Cardi pretty much said it. Just be honest that's all you can do. Not telling the truth will come back and haunt you in the long run. Find a teacher your close with and ask them, they will understand your situation. For example, one of my professors I got close with over the years one day told me that he had a few C's and D's on his transcript and that didn't stop him from getting his Ph.D/Ph.ed (or whatever that teaching degree is🙄).
