Hi,
I was just wondering how important letters of rec's are? Does it matter if they write a lot about you? Is a few words substantial enough? What are schools looking for in LORs?

In my opinion LOR are extremely important. They showcase you as an individual instead of simply the numbers that represent you grade wise/GRE test score wise.

Your recommenders know you personally, your strengths, weaknesses and know why you would be a good fit as a physical therapist.

I don't think that length is of the greatest importance, but within what is said the reader should be left with no doubt of the applicant's abilities.

Also, I believe this holds firm for ANY type of LOR, whether it be for school or a job.

Unfortunately, you have no control over how much the person writes, and you often have no idea what they write either. With that in mind, the only thing you need to be concerned with is choosing someone that you KNOW will only write things that reflect positively on you; more individualized and specific are best. In addition, the weight and attention directed toward LORs will vary from one school to another. I'd suggest not worrying about this though; just ask your writers and once they say yes it is out of your control. The person you ask has probably done this plenty times before, and it should be one less thing for you to worry about.

in my opinion, they are extremely important. most important aspect i believe is the interview. but each school is different. i was told by temple that they don't even read the LOR's..they just check to see if they are there

Every school is different, but I've been told by many that they are very importance and can often push someone with a lower GPA/other stats over someone with very high stats and mediocre LORs - however, like muscles said some schools, like temple, don't care about anything but numbers
