I am currently licensed in the great state of Florida, and i have been practicing for 2 years and 1/2. I am thinking about getting licensed in an other state. With 6 figures in the red, i will use my second license as a back plan should something happen. That means i won't necessarly be moving to another store unless i am out of job and unable to find employment in the state of Florida. Right now i am thinking about Texas.
For those of you who practice in Texas, how is the job market there?

Not good & pleast stay out of it until I graduate. Thx 😉

I just got a job offer in Texas so not bad I guess. Atlanta, GA is def NOT hiring though. 🙄

Are you in retail pharmacy? I heard that Houston and Austin are pretty saturated. Dallas will probably be saturated in another year or two. They need a lot of help west of Dallas though so if you are willing to move out that far you would probably get something.

****ty just like every where unless you want to work within 30 miles of the border or in the middle of nowwhere west Texas.

Yes, i am in retail. I would not mind moving where the jobs are.

You got an offer in El Paso... that doesn't count lol

True, unfortunately Houston and San Antonio are not hiring. Is El Paso really bad? I never been there.

So Atlanta is out but what about the suburbs of Atlanta? How about anywhere else in the state? I was interested in possibly moving to Georgia after graduating next year. So what is the story about the more rural areas of Georgia?

I interviewed with Publix and they told me that they like me, but since I don't have much experience in retail I have to prove to them that I am good. So they will hire me as an intern after I am done with rotations and see how well I do. If I do a great job they will hire me as a floater pharmacist. They told me the GA market is very tight, but I will most likely be floating around North GA and SC! They told me after I float around for awhile I will get my home store...but there is NO guarantees as to WHERE it will be. It can be anywhere in GA, SC and maybe even NC! They told me the more flexible you are the better. They also told me to get licensed in GA AND SC to make myself more valueable!

The interviewer told me flat out that anyone that can ONLY stay and work in Atlanta will not get hired period.

That's all I know for now.

I know a few classmates with offers from CVS and Walgreens...but other than that there aren't much else I heard of....I will be lying to you if I told you the market in GA is great. 🙁

From what I've been hearing (and this goes for most health care fields) is that there are jobs in the South, just not in the desirable cities. There are plenty of jobs in Texas, just not where 20-something young professionals want to work. ie: not Austin, Dallas, Houston or SA, and definitely not in the ATL.

Don't come to GA. Its terrible here.
