so i've done pretty well on all the Crack Dat TFE tests using just line counting initially to narrow down the answers. However I just took an Achiever test and the strategy didn't seem to eliminate hardly any answers at all.

So is there anyone who has taken the actual DAT using the line counting strategy for TFE? Will it work to help narrow some answers?

thanks!

(fyi: line counting is where certain # of lines will show up and be the same on another side of an object.

So for example, the number of:
Top's vertical lines pair with End's horizontal lines
Top's Horizontal pair with Front's horizontal lines
Front's Vertical lines pair with End's vertical lines)

I don't recommend doing so, just keep practicing to be able to imagine the figure in your mind.

I think line counting isn't so reliable a lot of the times.

yea in a lot of the CDP I just went through them super fast as "this side has 3, so this side needs to have 3 lines too", without too much comparing

so thanks for the advice, i realize i need to do comparing along with it, which will take some practice to get fast with that. So know I plan on looking at each line and thinking, this 1st line should be solid (or dashed) from looking at the structure from this other angle...etc

ive read through a bunch of the TFE posts, and sounds like there isn't a real secret, just have to practice with it!

Line counting (along with a couple other rules) should be used to eliminate choices, but not to find the correct answer, because it can get tricky. I used it to narrow choices down - it's easier to imagine something when you have less shapes in front of you. So it is helpful.

Advantage: Super fast, you can save time. Accurate as well.

Disadvantage: It doesn't always eliminate all wrong answers. Some time wrong answer also has same number of lines and most of the time you are down to 2 possible answer. So what do you do? Well, then you go further and count the lines in other view and compare them. If you are lucky you will eliminate your wrong answer. But and a big BUT... if you still can't eliminate then you f** - Now you have to go to traditional way of looking at the views and if you are not efficient (which is more likely cause you have been relying on LINE COUNTING) you are going to waste some time.

I love it but I would like to see if people here who have successfully used the technique in real DAT.

I know it works great with Crack DAT. You could just fly through. But I'm worrying exactly like you. My guess, if you rely on line counting, in worst case scenario you might get stuck at 2 or 3 question. Can you take chance with 2 or 3 out of 90...hmmm !!!!😕

As others have said, I wouldn't rely on it for anything more than eliminating 1 in a few questions.

Seriously, the line counting didn't really work in the real DAT because I think the test makers probably have caught on😉

It's a test on your abilities to perceive objects, not so much as to count lines so I don't blame them..lol.
