Hi, So recently I've been hearing and seeing a lot more about linkedin. I signed up for it, and it suggests a lot of "connections" based on my email contact list. A lot of the people it suggests are former preceptors, and people at some of my IPPE sites.

I guess I don't really "get" linkedin. Do you connect with everyone you came in contact with? Do they have to accept the connection? I guess I dont really understand what connecting with them means.

It's basically a more professional facebook.

It seems to be an email generating service.

Yeah, lots and lots of e-mails.

I did see a couple job postings come my way through LinkedIn though, but nothing I'm qualified to apply for yet.

I've used Linked in for professional networking in my current career. I also use it when hiring and when performing any research on individuals I may be doing business with. It's a great site to use to keep a living resume of yourself and a fantastic tool for maintaining contact with the important connections you've made over the year.

However, there are rules and etiquette to Linked in. You don't want to simply send an email to every person you've ever met. Spend some time researching the site on google and you'll get it figured out.
