I'm unfortunately looking at an MCAT retake. Probably the single biggest reason is that I got a 54% in the biological sciences section, and that was almost entirely due to experimental techniques.

My MCAT biological sciences section was just loaded with passages related to experimental techniques. I'd studied all the basic ones (ELISA, RIA, electrophoresis, flavors of blotting) using the TPR MCAT books. In the exam, however, I was shocked to find that there were passages related to techniques I'd never ever heard of (and were not easily discernible from the passages). I can't be specific due to my NDA agreement but one passage I'm particularly unhappy about had a technique that rhymes with "His AGE". It wasn't a hard passage, and I'd have had little difficulty if I'd only been given this as a potential topic area and reviewed it prior to the exam. The experimental stuff cost me dearly.

Since TPR is so deficient at describing experimental techniques, is there a better list that I can work off of for the MCAT retake? If the MCAT is going to be obsessed with experimental techniques, then I need to prepare properly by knowing what is game.

Thanks in advance!

How did you feel about the amount of passages related to experimental techniques found in the AAMC section exams and AAMC practice exams?
