The subject box says it all: I am interested in knowing if there is a comprehensive list of med schools that have a known history of accepting older students. And just to clarify: while I realize that a 26y/o is "older" I am thinking more along the lines of 33 and up. Even if there is not a comprehensive listing, presenting me with known options will be greatly appreciated.

USC, Temple, NYMC, Albert Einstein, SLU, and any Osteopathic medical school.

I am sure there are other allopathic schools, but these are just the ones I know about.

Good luck!

I would also add Albany, Vermont, MCOW (Med College Wisconsin), and Jefferson to the list of schools that like older students. If you have good stats (>30 MCAT, >3.5 GPA), you might also try Pitt and Rochester.

Now, now. Age discrimination is a violation of federal law. So I would imagine that we older applicants could apply anywhere without fear of such discrimination, since we know that med schools would never violate federal laws in their admissions process. Right? 😉

Count in Creighton (which I am attending this August) and MCP Hahnemann.

CWRU has a long history of being friendly to non-traditional students, many of whom are 30 and older. The oldest student in my class is in his mid 40s.

A really good one is Eastern virginia medical school.

Also I forgot Gwashington and you have to be careful about some of these schools they may only accept certain percentages of out of staters. like south carolinas average age is 26 te they only accept 2 % from out of state.

UCI! I know that a few students are up to 30, and I heard at my interview that someone was in their late thirties.

Snoopy's right. Case Western is known for taking what they call 'bent arrows'. Very non-trad friendly.

Every US medical school takes older students.
Older students in their fifties have occasionally been accepted, but as you can imagine there was some very special reason in those cases.

On the grounds of age, better perhaps called maturity and experience, apply to any medical school you wish to and where you are a likely candidate.

gower,
Are you suggesting that all are equally non-trad friendly?

I don't know the answer to this question, but are there really schools that prefer younger students even if they are about the same as the older ones?

I read once that med schools regard the investment in educating one student as priceless, therefore they want their investment to "produce" a return as long as possible. So a graduate who begins residency at age 26-28 will obviously (barring unforeseen tragedy) be in the state of practicing medicine for a greater period of time than a student who begins residency at the age of 35-40. Just something I read once. Anyone else know of other schools? By the way thanks very much for all the responses. This was my first post here and the response was very nice 🙂
