Hi,
I'm applying MD PhD only this cycle and I've been feeling panicky about getting accepted somewhere because of my stats. My primaries went in, should I add/change schools I'm applying to since my application hasn't been verified yet?

gpa: 3.57, sgpa: 3.47
mcat: 39P
research: 2 years in biochemistry lab, 1 year in another, 1 year during gap year
publication in science, 2nd author

I was originally thinking of applying to only mid-tier and low tier schools, but my prehealth advisor encouraged me to a lot of higher ranked schools as well...hence the large number of schools. I'm trying to be especially conservative because I know that the competition is difficult.

I meant 1 plan on doing 1 year of research as I apply...

You can safely cut your list by one-third. While competition will be tougher this year & in the future due to the Sequestration cuts, you appear to have a strong application. The 2nd author Science paper & 39 MCAT will erase any concerns about your GPA. Select schools based on your research interests, even if some are in less desireable locations for you.

Totally agree, I would not worry at all if I were you (as long as you can give a half-way decent interview).
