List the schools with the easiest secondaries

List the schools with basically no secondaries.

Why?

Wanting to avoid schools that just want your $$ OR wanting to only apply places that require the least amount of effort on your part?

Just curious?

Also: Jefferson, Albert Einstein, Emory, SUNY Upstate, Penn State, Miami, Tufts, Albany, and Tulane, for starters.

There are also many schools with secondaries of intermediate length that basically ask "why us?". These take a little bit of research to write but are very important for adcoms in the sense that they show the school you spent some time looking up their school instead of just adding just another school on AMCAS. Make sure you use due diligence.

Schools with ridiculously long secondaries and/or ask essay questions that you can't essentially repeat from other secondaries are: FIU, MSU, UCF, Duke, VTech, Minnesota, TCMC, Maryland, UAB, Iowa, Kansas, Rush, and maybe UoL. There are undoubtedly different opinions on these, of course.

In terms of maximizing your application experience, I recommend completing the quick and easy applications first and then finishing the longer ones later.

I haven't applied yet, but something that comes to mind is that the length of secondaries might affect how many schools you apply to can it not? For example, if I had the money, I can apply to 25 if 10 of those secondaries are short, but if all of them are long, then I wouldn't have enough time to polish them.

I think its fine if a school doesn't require an essay on the secondary. Id rather a school be upfront about whether or not they give secondary essays much weight than have me spend time on something that probably wont help my application much.

tufts has like 4 essays -_-

buffalo was pretty easy and i believe rochester doesn't have any essay questions.

For carribean schools you do not even have to fill out secondaries.

Did we do the same secondary? I got Tufts the other day, and there were no mandatory essays if you were a traditional applicant (ie no gaps between schools, etc). Maybe they have multiple versions...?

Oh I must have been thinking of a different school, my mistake.

No ****!!!! How awesome is that? Is it still required that I have a pulse or will just handing over a cheque satisfy entry requirements?

VTech has a long secondary? Crap, does any one know about these schools?

VCU
Wake Forrest
EVMS
UMiami
FSU

UMiami this year is on the "long" side of average. No super long essays, but several shorter ones.

VCU is relatively short from what I remember. EVMS is a bit longer and last time it was still in paper format (had to mail it in).

UVM from what I remember did not even have secondary essay questions.

Harvard's secondary was the easiest one I have seen yet, no essays or anything. You basically fill in some personal info and pay. I guess they don't need any more info beyond the Primary to decide if you get an interview or not there.

VTech's secondary allows room for about 5000 characters and basically makes you have to rewrite you PS. Of course, you shouldn't use your PS for it. Unless you don't want to get an (MMI) interview.
VCU's asks for a limit 600 word essay on why you want to go to VCU. That's a lot of writing for a typical "why us?" essay. While many schools ask this same question, most stick with <1200 character limit, for instance.
Good luck getting a secondary at Wake.
EVMS asks for several ~1000 character essays. They're not that bad.
UMiami is interesting in that it asks for many really short essays, then screws you with two longer essays at the end that is a rehash of your personal statement. Make sure you "do not send or simply copy information from your personal statement in your AMCAS application". Thanks guys!
You have to be a Florida resident to apply to FSU.

What about the UVa Secondary?

Thanks for the information!

Wow really?

Are there any schools in Florida that I don't have to be a resident to apply to? (Other than UMiami)

Also, about the Wake comment, is it really really hard to get in there? Or do they do the same thing as FSU where I have to be a N.C. resident

The UVa secondary was ok. It was actually the first one I ever did. It asked me the basic questions: Why UVa? Why should we choose you? What diversity do you have? (show some personality) Greatest challenge as a doc? There are actually entire threads dedicated to this if you click on the links at the top of the page.

There are several other schools in Florida besides Miami and FSU. These include UCF, USF (very long secondary), FIU, and FAU. I think that's all of them off the top of my head but since it's alphabet soup I may have missed one. I'm not sure but I think you have to have really strong ties to Florida to apply to UF. Check out the MSAR for more info.

WFSOM is weird in that it is looking for a specific type of applicant. They require a breadth of experience with a strong focus on the community and giving back. If you get a secondary, you are in the lucky minority, but that doesn't automatically mean you get an interview spot. And just like with undergrad, you get a free laptop when you enroll. Oh, and they have one of the biggest scientists in the world at their hospital. He is a boss.

I am a big fan of their football program. You should check out pics of their former QB, Riley Skinner, on google images next time you are at the public library, with small children, or with your boss.
