Hi guys,

I received a response from the Department of Dermatology regarding a lab position. The director mentioned that there would a part-time position to write "literature reviews" I am not sure exactly what writing a literature review entails as far as my responsibilities and if it leads to some tangible merit such as a publication in a journal. Could anyone offer their 2 cents?

Thanks:

Heres the response:

"Sorry for my delayed response. The CDR does not have a laboratory as
well conduct primarily all clinical research. At this time, we don't
have an official position available for someone such as yourself.

However, we sometimes have students write literature reviews and the
like via telecommuting over email. If this is something that interests
you, we can come up with a project or 2 for you to do in your spare
time."

it sounds like they're talking about reviews that get published in journals, such as "the current state of treatment of x" where a person or people look over current literature and summarize it.

it's not true research, but definitely could be a way to bump up the pubs part of your cv. I haven't written any myself, and they seem really boring to do (or exciting, if you loooooooooove the topic) but hey, if you need stuff like it, it could be worthwhile. definitely has flexible hours.

To make the experience worthwhile, is there a formal way I could respond to this email to ask about how likely my involvement could lead to a tangible product such as a publication in a journal?
