good evening.

long story made short. I'm a DO student who wants to match Allopathic Emergency Med at (hopefully) a great-to-elite program. My stats:

I am probably going to finish top 10% in the class.
I made Sigma Sigma Phi (DO equivalent of AOA, kinda)
I was involved in a lot of clubs/extracurriculars in school
I got a 252 on Step 1 USMLE, and like 575 (i forget exactly) on COMLEX one. Obviously i focused on USMLE.

Now my questions...

Do I take Step II USMLE? Will it hurt me if I don't do as good as my first one? About what programs (in terms of bad, below average, average, above average, great, elite) am i competitive for?

Before I even think about studying for it, I just want to make sure if its worth my time.

I focused my step 1 energy on USMLE becuase I want to do allopathic, and some people have told me that my 252 is enough for good programs, but I want to maximize my application profile without being too risky. Thanks in advance!

haha. i guess i set myself up for that one.

i dont normally play things safe, but accidents do happen. I just dont wanna make a mistake that will cripple me.

If you want any decent program in anything allopathic, Step I and II are a necessity. Many programs require Step II now, anyway. YOU have to set yourself apart from every allo out there. That means doing MORE than every allo did.

Take it. Rape it. Win the day

Im pretty much in the same situation and my school isn't exactly good at communicating with the students. So, I am at a loss whether or not to take the USMLE step 2 late, early, or even at all. What to do what to do.

Read above. Sometime early enough to put it on apps.
