ok. my ignorant mother seems to think that all dentists do is pull teeth and fill them...will someone give me a list/explanation of what dentists do (i honestly couldn't put together a great argument), so i can refute her stupid ignornance...thanks

If you can not tell you mom what dentists do, then I think you should not go to dental school. Yeah, there is a lot of cavity filling, but that is not that all they do. You might want to check out some web sites, if this for your presonal statement, then I think you should be creative enough to figure out what dentistry is, otherwise, stay away from dentistry.

You don't have to be an expert on dentistry to be interested. I had no idea at the huge scope of procedures that a dentist performs until I shawdowed a dentist.

To the OP, if this is really for your AADSAS essay, you really ought to find out for yourself what dentistry involves. If it's really for your mom, then say something like "A general dentist can do just about anything you want him to do!" Here is a short (and I'm sure incomplete list of procedures):

Fillings
Root Canals
Dentures
Implants
Bone grafts
gum replacement
Crowns
Bridges
Extractions
etc., etc.

even if this is a secret plot for your essay, thats a pretty lame essay if you ask me. Hmmmm...lets see...lets tell a bunch of dentists on the adcom what is involved in dentistry.....you'll have acceptences through the roof with an essay like that!!! 🙄
