no they called me and left a voicemail. and then when i accepted they sent me an email with info. They called me Nov 9th i think?

Yep. I got a phone call last Tuesday before thanksgiving. And great! I'll look out for you Jesse if that's your name.

Well I got my first rejection letter today, well it's not my first rejection because I applied to Drexel and I didn't hear anything from them so I'm considering that a rejection too but I received my first verbal rejection today and it was in an email from this school Long Island University.

Long Island University says:

Dear Ngozi,

Thank you very much for your interest in our Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.

This e-mail is to notify you that our Physical Therapy Admission Committee has decided not to accept you into our DPT program for the 2013 entrance. You will soon receive an official letter from our Office of Admissions stating the same decision.

Please note: The above decision will remain intact throughout the entire 2012/2013 admission year.

All applications that meet our minimal application criteria are reviewed, and only those that are most competitive are invited for interview. Any applicant who is denied admission is advised to do a self-assessment on the below admission factors and see how they can improve their competitiveness by changing any of the factors (those that are still changeable) should they decide to re-apply to our program in the future. Please visit our webpage to review our application requirements: http://www.liu.edu/Brooklyn/Academics/Schools/SHP/Dept/Physical-Therapy/DPT/Application

Undergraduate GPA
Science GPA
Trend and history of academic performance
GRE scores
Recommendations
Interview performance (if invited for an interview)

Please note that no further advice other than the above generic one will be provided.

I wish you all the best for your future academic pursuit.

They have the words "minimum application criteria" underlined.

Okay so I was 1 point under their minimum GRE total score.

Here are my stats:

I've been a Physical Therapist Assistant since 2007. I worked full time for just over 3 and a half years in a sub-acute/long term nursing home after that I did some per diem work. Before I received my PTA license in 2006 I did internships at different facilities, outpatient/hospital/nursing home.

I receive my Bachelor Degree in Communication Studies. Graduated with a Cum Laude honor.

My Upper Division Course GPA is 3.48
My Total GPA is 3.23
My Science GPA is 3.56
My Self Reported PT prerequisite GPA is 3.57
My last GRE scores: 145 Verbal, 144 Quantitative and 3.5 Analytical (although my best Analytical score out of the 3 times I've taken the test is 4)

I have 3 F grades and 10 withdrawals on my transcript. Most of the Withdrawals I can explain with the fact that it was a turning point in my college career when I was changing majors and my college career stretches 12 years long (including the 3 and a half years I was out of school working as a PTA between my associates and bachelor degree) even though I only have an Associates Degree and Bachelors (which is supposed to only be 6 years long).

My only extra curricular is a few hours volunteering at an Open House in the University I graduated from and 7 hours at a food bank in my area (I feel bad for not doing more food bank volunteering, I need to get back there).

I only esubmitted September 30th and most of the schools I applied to I only did so on and after November 9th (maybe kind of late but before deadline)

I have references from 2 PTs from different facilities and one from a professor (in Communication Studies) and I will get another recommendation from my current Biology professor in December. I'm currently taking Cell Biology and will take G.O.P (Gen. Biology 2) in the spring semester. Those are the last prerequisites I need.

I have a valid CPR, AED and First Aid license.

The weird thing is that their application deadline is in March which means if my GRE score was the problem, they could have given me time to fix it right? but instead they just shut me off and said that this decision to reject me remains intact throughout the 2012/2013 cycle. I thought they'd interview me and there ask me about the GRE and talk to me about retaking it. That seems to be the only reason I can think of on my application that is not competitive. I meet the minimum overall GPA and my prerequisite GPA is competitive.

Only consolation is that LIU is one of the schools that requires the GRE. If it were a school that did not require the GRE I would be shattered.

I'm going to call the school and talk to them about the rejection, it couldn't hurt. Wasn't it this school that someone on here who was initially rejected spoke to and then was given an interview. Actually just rechecked and that was NYIT not LIU and the person went from denied to put on the wait list but it could probably work for LIU, I have nothing to lose.

What were all of your stats that got interviewed?

Hey- sorry about your rejection. im sure you will get in somewhere that will be a good fit for you.

my stats are:
undergrad major: Dance and Choreography (graduated in 2008, been dancing professionally, teaching yoga, dance, and fitness classes since then, while doing pre-reqs)
overall gpa: 3.62
pre-req gpa:currently a 3.68, but im still finishing up pre-reqs. finishing physics I and chem I now, and taking physics II and chem II in the spring
obs hours: 60 and still working on them

hope this helps. good luck!

I had to decline mine but was offered 12/2 interview. Your stats were definitely interview-worthy aside from your GRE which you said was below the minimum. I think that was your only disqualifier.

Rereading that rejection letter and realizing how harsh it is. I already pointed out that the letter seems pretty premature since the deadline is March, the fact that I missed there GRE minimum total score by one point and how they made a note of saying "that this decision to reject me remains intact throughout the 2012/2013 cycle". Why would they need to say that the decision to reject me would remain intact throughout the 2012/2013 cycle? Just seems harsh that they'd point out something so obvious. But to add to the harshness I read later in that email: "Please note that no further advice other than the above generic one will be provided." and in the email that is underlined. That's basically saying "don't try to call and talk to us about why you were rejected. Harsh.

i know a few of you on here were at the interview on sunday with me.. what did you guys think of the program? thoughts? opinions?

i really liked the vibe of the program. and i thought everyone was very welcoming, especially the first and second year students. im really hoping to get in, its my top choice.

I declined my interview offer here.. but got an acceptance email. I'm confused, but will be giving this spot up for those of you waiting to hear back. I hope this helps someone out.

I just got accepted to LIU today!! I didn't even interview, so I'm surprised of the email! LIU isn't high on my list of choices, so I'm unsure whether I'll take the spot or not. If not, that'll open up someone else's chances of being accepted!

Isn't interviews a requirement for admission to LIU DPT program? I received an acceptance e-mail from them this morning but I never interviewed with them. Didn't see this one coming at all!

Just got the follow up email saying that the previous acceptance was a mistake. That is a massive failure. I feel really bad for anyone who was waiting on that decision.... ::facepalm::

WOW, this just happened to me too. What an ultimate mistake on their part. This whole application process is already stressful and this just added to it.

Same here. I was so happy for a minute until I read the retraction email. Were you guys invited for an interview? I never got an invite and I'm worried that the email was maybe supposed to be a rejection letter?

I was invited for an interview, never interviewed, and still got the email. Sounds like it was sent to everyone.

hey guys,
did you receive an interview before you sent your supplemntal application?

Happened to me too! Pretty huge mistake.. I emailed back to withdraw my application bc I really wasn't happy about it.. got into other schools that were higher on my list than LIU anyway 🙂

hey guys,
did you receive an interview before you sent your supplemntal application?
i received an interview before my supp app was processed, however I had submitted it in like 2 days before when they called me for an interview. i interviewed on Dec 2nd, was accepted yesterday. Still trying to decide what im going to do, since i have gotten into one other school as well.

i really liked the school and the professors when i visited so im definitely considering it, however i cant believe that huuge mistake yesterday. that sucks so bad for anyone who got that email.

I also got accepted (after submitting my supplemental by the way) I think such a huge error with sending out accidental acceptances really makes me question attending. For such an expensive school they really should be on top of those types of administrative things. I did, however, get a pretty good vibe from the school, the students and the faculty so letting this one go will be hard.

agreed DPT21, I loved the program and the professors, but when I read on here about that mistake email i was kinda like wth? those kind of mistakes should not happen. im still strongly considering it though bc it seems like a great program.

Hi... Sorry to ask, but what are the gpa requirements for the program in LIU? Like the average... Also does anyone know the tuition? Im asking for my brother who might want to do PT in the same school.

Just going back to this rejection. I guess maybe I should have not given them any of my GRE scores until I retook it and got a score at or above their minimum. I still had a few months as their GRE deadline is March 1st.

I bring this issue back up because I think I just made the same mistake with another school I just applied to. My GRE score is below their minimum but their GRE deadline is not until April 2nd. I already sent them my GRE scores. I wonder should I call them and ask them to hold off on making a decision on me until I retake the GRE in March if it is my GRE that will cause them to reject me.

Is it bad to send schools your GRE scores if your scores are below the minimum, even if there is still time to retake the GRE?

I just can't understand why LIU came to a decision about me so quickly. If my GRE score was the issue they could have held off on making a decision about me until after their GRE deadline passed (March 1st). Which makes me think that it had to be more than my GRE score that was the reason for the rejection, especially since I only missed their minimum GRE score by 1 point.

I'm really just concerned about this because I'd like to know what was wrong with my application. The way the rejection letter was written makes me feel like I can't come to them about why I was rejected.

A school can't reject you based on your GRE score if their GRE deadline has not passed yet so I don't think my GRE score was the cause of my rejection.

This is going to sound harsh, but it isn't meant to be. A school can reject you for any reason they want, with little to no explanation as to why, at any point in the cycle. If they do give you feedback, they're doing you a favor and it's certainly not required of them to do so. Having said that, I'm sure it sucks from your standpoint and I feel for you.

You applied to a lot of other schools and you can't linger over this one school's less than ideal way of rejecting you. You're going to get chances at other schools and should brush it off and look ahead. Easier said than done, but it's the only way.

For those of you who interviewed at LIU, can you tell me what questions they asked and how the process worked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Best,
ptobs

hey- i interviewed there back in dec, was accepted but am choosing a diff school mainly due to cost. i liked LIU alot though!

prepare for the typical interview questions. it wasnt that bad though. i was only asked like 4 questions. and it was done in groups of 3. 3 applicants per 2 professors. they asked me why PT, why LIU, my strengths and weakness, 3 words my friends would describe me with and why and maybe 1 or 2 more but i cant remember. they asked the girl next to me about direct access (i was pretty happy ididnt get that one) so make sure you prepare for a question like that. they asked the guy next to me where he saw himself in 10 years. professors were really nice, just try to be confident and be able to articulate why you want to be a PT and youll be fine. also they left alot of time for us to ask them questions. i had a ton of questions which i think helped with my acceptance. so def think of i would say at least 5 questions to ask them bc they left like 20 min for it. good luck!!! 🙂

Can you write the questions that you asked them"

hmm i asked about the student to teacher relationship? like if professors were close to their students?

i asked what the student to student relationship was like? were peers helping each other doing group study etc or if it was a very competitive atmosphere.

i asked some questions specifically to the field of pt that i want to go in. bc i am interested in working with dancers ( i was a dance major). so i asked if they had any affiliations for clinicals with dance companies?

what parts of the country did they have clinicals in? and how much freedom do we get as students in determining where we end up for clinicals.

i asked if the anatomy lab was open 24 hours? haha i asked a ton of questions. but i was really interested in the school. it was my top choice at the time. good luck!

I have an interview here on April 6th and am curious how did it go for those who just did one on 3/8? What should I expect and prepare for?

I got into LIU!!! Woohooo!
Thank you to everyone who has posted info on this site, its been extremely helpful!

I interviewed about two fridays ago i believe and was emailed an acceptance letter shortly after (not even a week had passed)
