I presented today at the 2006 MARC in Chicago. Met all the CCF residents, PD, Vice-PD, Chairman of General Anesthesia, Division Head. Awesome experience, really good feeling to be welcomed to a program. 😎

I watched many presentaions throughout the day and some were really interesting case presentations, followed by some excellent questions from Staff Anesthesiologists, PDs, and Program Chairs in the audience. I was approached by a program chair interested in taking my abstract idea to the next level and conduct a multi-site head to head comparison.

Bottom line is, GO TO THE REGIONAL CONFERENCES! PRESENT!!!! 👍 👍

Some people had some outstanding presentations, but others presented the History of X,Y,Z as it was developed at their institution. Another resident presented the life work of a machinist that worked closely with program X and did the machine work on the laryngoscope blades they developed in the 1940s. 😕 Cool, but just not what I expected.

For not a ton of work everyone got a free trip to Chicago, a little practice at public speaking, put up in a nice hotel, got to dress up and walked around all day patting each other on the back, listened to some intelligent addresses during meals (ASA and AMA Leadership), and got to meet PDs, Chairs, and tons of Attendings and other Residents.

AS AN INTERN GO TO YOUR CONFERENCE, AS A RESIDENT GO TO YOUR CONFERENCE!!!! PRESENT SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍 👍

I've noticed that anesthesiology in general seems to reminesce quite a bit about the past and how it came to be.

I agree, go to your area conf's and present. I did this twice in residency and have never regretted the experience. If nothing else, you get to mingle with alot of different folks from different programs. I had a few job offers every time I presented. I took first place with one of my presentations (Kavain an it circulatory effects) which had many dept. chairs, PD's,and staff coming up and introducing themselves. I even spent a number of hours in the bar with one of the Stanford big wigs which resulted in a job offer and some security while job searching. You can't lose especially when your dept. foots the bill. 👍
