I'm transferring to a university, and I have the choice to live on or off campus.

-If I live off campus with my uncle, I would commute about 30 minutes one way (1 hour a day total; not including traffic time), and pay $4 K a year.

-If I live on campus, I would be able to walk to class, but pay $10 K a year.

Its a tough situation for me....

Thanks

Would you rather save money or have a more traditional college experience?

Do you already have friends going to said school? If you are more of a loner or already have a circle of friends, I would commute and save money.

However, if you are a social person and want the traditional college experience, it would be worth it to live on.

Did you include commute costs into that 4K? If you're in my situation and you drive everywhere and your beast of a truck gets 14 mpg, then 1 hour of driving/day is a huge deal financially.

live on campus. I truly believe you learn and mature by being surrounded by motivated students. I was a commuter, then transferred and lived on campus. HUGE difference.

What do you mean by living "on campus"? In the dorms?

You could also live "off campus" but near campus. If you find a bunch of roommates in a house or larger apartment, it may be cheaper than living in the dorms and you may still be able to walk to class. It'd be more expensive than living with your uncle (assuming free rent and low transportation costs), but you'd kinda get the "college experience".

By $4K I did not include driving expenses.

By "on campus" I meant in dorms. I thought about that myself. Maybe living with other motivated students will help me stay on track. Thats how I got through high school anyways....
